Well the gates to the Carole Park Aquatic Centre were flung opened to the school holiday intensive swim program on the 8th of January, 2018 for the two week program.
To say this was a success would be an understatement. Everyday has seen anywhere from 25-35 kids ranging in age from 5 years old to 14 years old walk through the gates with smiles on their faces, all keen to get a head start on their swimming season.
Each session the children were put through an hour of dry land activities aimed at strengthening and conditioning core muscle groups, followed by two hours of swimming training.
The swimming sessions had a mixture of endurance, technique refinement and sprint work aimed at all levels of fitness and swimming ability attending the program.
On Thursday the 11th of January, we were privileged to have Jade Edmistone an Australian Breaststroker, and former world record holder in the 50m Breaststroke in both the short and long course format. Jade was a fantastic motivational speaker for the kids and also took the senior children for a brief workout using Oncore floatation boards to strengthen and develop their core muscle groups.
Every Friday of the two week program, Erin Lorimer donated her time and knowledge by taking the children through a yoga session for their dry land component, helping them to develop body awareness, flexibility and increased strength and muscle tone.
As always, without the involvement of our dedicated parents who take the time out of their day to facilitate their kids being involved this wouldn’t be a success. So thank you for the support, the laughs and for cutting up all the fruit for the kids on both of the Friday sessions.
